All you need to know about Oaks Day 2023
We are galloping towards our favourite day of the year here at Olga Berg. A day when dressing up extravagantly is called for and all eyes are on the ladies. Thursday November 9 2023 will see another beautiful Oaks day at Flemington Race Day. The theme first began in 1962 as a way to encourage more women to attend and continues to be a very popular race event with more than 70,000 people generally in attendance.
Oaks Day Colours
So first things first, there’s no official colour scheme when it comes to Oaks Day. However, there is certainly an unofficial guide on what to wear for ladies day race attire. Oaks Day is all about florals, dainty lace, bright colours and lots of pink! It’s the perfect time to bring out your girly side (if you have one) and let it shine! The official flower for the race day event is a rose, which leaves lots of room to work that into your outfit.
What to wear to Oaks Day in 2023
Fashions on the field are in full swing on ladies day, so advance planning is key. Pop the champagne and pull out your best fascinators to watch some racing and the fashion highlights. Here’s our top tips on what to wear this year!
1. Floral and floaty dress
It’s the perfect time to wear the girliest dress you can think of. Something dainty and whimsical, floaty and floral. We like a soft blush shade, a creamy white, or a delicate pastel yellow. Better yet, a dress adorned with graphical roses to really get into the theme of the day like Robyn Lawley did a few years back!
2. Heeled Sandals or Wedges
Generally race day shoes are more about comfort given you’re outdoors and will be on your feet all day. It’s the perfect moment to whip out the heeled sandal, or wedges. You get that little bit of height making it comfortable to wear a full length dress, and won't have any difficulty walking in these.
3. Rose Fascinator
You can’t celebrate race day without a fascinator in tow! With the rose the official flower for Oaks Day, why not carry this theme through to your millinery? Try our Lolita Enamel Flower Headband as the centrepiece for your race day look with her big beautiful flowers. She’s pretty yet will impart a bold and confident edge to your outfit at the same time.
4. Woven clutch bag
Go all out and complete your outfit with a cute clutch bag. We love the idea of something a little whimsical to fit the overall theme of your outfit and nothing too OTT since you’ll already be rocking an eyes on me fascinator and a floaty dress. Our Amalia Woven Clutch is perfect for Oaks Day, and will also be your go-to accessory for the summer season of events this year. Made from white woven straw, she’s ideal for daytime events like the races, and summer picnics.
5. Embellished Clutch
If you want something a little more embellished, try our Beth Clutch. Decked out in lace, crystals and beads she’s definitely a little more attention seeking but doesn’t push the line into OTT territory. With her crocheted flowers, she’s a beauty fit for ladies day!
