BLACK & WHITE LOOKING OH SO RIGHT AT DERBY DAY
Another racing season is coming to an end, and the fashions of the field have provided us with some serious inspiration for our summer wardrobe. Derby Day is one of the main events on the calendar, for both the horses and the fashion. Unlike Melbourne Cup, Derby Day has a strict black and white dress code, which sees attendees exercise their creativity to make a statement without the aid of colours. The trackside was a monochrome affair, with tulle, lace, polka dots and pinstripes spotted in The Birdcage. Everything from delicate millinery to wide brim hats were donned, as guests sipped on champagne in style. Even some splashes of colour stood out in the midst- because you can’t truly make a statement without breaking a few rules, right?
The Angels
Of course, Derby Day wouldn’t be complete without some floating white frocks. It’s a feminine staple of the event every year but, in our eyes, these ladies made it look brand new.
Danielle Collis, styled by Daniel Paciocco, wearing Santina-Nicole dress, Morgan + Taylor hat and the JULIANA Clutch.
Masculine Chic
This year, tuxedo dresses and pinstriped prints added some savvy sophistication to the field. This modern spin on the timeless piece highlighted how the rules of fashion have changed since the event began in 1875.
Bigger the Better
Wide sunhats were certainly a trackside trend, and are definitely something to look out for as the warmer months approach. The beauties below used the accessory to add some drama to their looks.
Heavenly Headpieces
Finding a headpiece to compliment your outfit can be a struggle, but these ladies nailed it, with millinery that stood apart from the rest.
